Issue Categories

Grades are based on how lawmakers voted on legislation in these categories:

Jobs & Workplace

Bills that affect job creation, fair compensation and workers’ rights

Fair Taxes

Bills that make the tax burden more fair or less fair relative to family income

Crime & Criminal Justice

Bills that affect public safety, policing and incarceration

Clean Air, Land & Water

Bills that affect the environment

Children & Families

Bills that affect quality of life and public services: education, healthcare, broadband access, housing, etc.

Corporate Welfare

Bills that affect whether the powerful get special treatment

Democratic Rights

Bills that affect voting rights, access to public information and ethics in government

Grades and Scoring

Legislation is identified for scoring based on its impact on Louisiana residents in one of the seven issue categories above. Legislators are graded, just like you remember in school, based on what percentage of their votes are aligned with people’s interests.

Legislators receive an overall score and sub-scores by issue category. Anything below 60% is an F. Bonus points are awarded based on bill sponsorship, introducing positive or negative amendments and other significant acts of legislative leadership.

Grades are updated weekly based on lawmakers’ votes during the prior week.
